![]() It matters less when people can fly or have hoverbikes, but that's what prepared actions and wind is for. Sometimes they may even ignore the biggest threats and worry instead about dropping as many foes as possible as quickly as possible, so as to keep the numbers advantage. Azlanti space soldiers will target whomever poses the biggest threat in some situations that's the mountain of muscle carrying three heavy weapons, in others it's the cyborg ratfolk sniper looking for good cover, and in yet others it's the psychic that's chanting ominously and can liquefy you with their mind. A wolf pack will attempt to take out the weakest first, until they find out the hard way that the skinny one in the back can shoot fire out of their hands. Additionally, intelligent or clever enemies will target different PCs based on their specific strengths. Unintelligent enemies will generally employ more brute-force tactics, though they can still be clever enough to say, set up ambushes. Intelligent enemies should be played intelligently generally, they will make use of cover and terrain, use grenades to either damage their foes or force them out of cover, employ traps, and play to each other's strengths. STARFINDER GM HELP PCFlanking a PC in melee, then tripping them, is a very effective tactic (and the very reason I have come to respect wolves/wargs/dogs in Pathfinder). It's generally less effective than constantly attacking, but is both more interesting and can provide the NPCs with an advantage if they're say, struggling to hit the PC's Armor Class. ![]() It really helps to make use of the various action types in Starfinder. Spellcasting is always powerful depending on the number and type of spells available to a PC or NPC, their effective CR may have to be higher. ![]() If a technologically adept alien from the Alien Archives or Archives of Nethys has equipment that's 5 levels below the party, they'll struggle to keep pace. There's also tactics, equipment, and abilities. Reading through it will give you a baseline, but appropriate CR isn't the only aspect of a fight. The Game Mastering section of the Core Rulebook explains the Challenge Rating system pretty well, which exists to help balance out fights. I don't know of any online tools like that, so sorry if this isn't helpful but I do have a little advice on this subject. ![]()
